The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Eoghan Mooney as Dun’s Librarian. Dr Mooney succeeds Professor Brendan Kelly, who held the post since 2023.
The Dun's Librarian is appointed on a three-year term as the College Fellow with oversight of all matters relating to the College’s Heritage Centre. In his role, Dr Mooney will also chair the RCPI Library and Heritage Committee which reports to the College Executive and Council.
Dr Mooney is a Consultant Histopathologist at the National Maternity Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. He has a longstanding interest in the history of medicine and has been actively involved with the RCPI Faculty of Pathology over many years.
Speaking about his appointment, Dr Mooney said: “I am honoured to have been appointed Dun’s Librarian at an exciting time for the College’s collections and look forward to contributing to their continued development.”
Dr Mooney takes up the role at an important time for the College as it progresses plans to fundraise, prepare and build Ireland’s first medical museum at its historic home at No. 6 Kildare Street. His expertise, enthusiasm and support for the project will be invaluable as the College develops this major new cultural and educational resource.
As Dun’s Librarian, Dr Mooney will provide expertise and oversight as the College continues to expand and develop its collections, including its archive, library, medical instruments and Materia Medica.
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland wishes Dr Mooney every success in his new role and looks forward to working with him as the College continues to develop and preserve its rich medical heritage.
