RCPI to host special performance of Just Another Day, a moving play on ageing and memory

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) will host a special performance of Just Another Day at its historic home, No. 6 Kildare Street, Dublin, on Thursday, 14 May.

Starring Dan Lauria and Patty McCormick, Just Another Day is a moving and thoughtful performance exploring themes of ageing, memory, loneliness and human connection – themes that resonate deeply with medicine, public health and lived experience. It rightfully leaves room for important and compassionate conversations about later life and care.

A comedy writer and a poet in their seventies meet daily on a park bench to exchange wits and indulge in nostalgia all the while trying to figure out how they know – and love – each other. It is a tale of how two poetic souls use words and humour as a guiding light through a foggy world. It is hoped that the play will bring a greater understanding of the creative instinct that lives on in those that suffer memory loss.

Described as “deeply moving, highly entertaining” by Hollywood Progressive and “tender and uplifting” by the Boston Globe, this performance is not to be missed. It is part of our wider commitment to public engagement, welcoming the public into the College in new and meaningful ways. The performance will be followed by a short panel discussion, opening the space for reflection and sharing on the themes of healthcare, society and lived experience.

The play is being brought to Ireland through the generosity of the actors, who are donating their performances. Travel and accommodation have been kindly supported by Elliott Masie and Cathy Masie, Broadway producers whose work centres on the concept of Aging with Empathy.

The performance will take place on Thursday, 14 May at RCPI, No. 6 Kildare Street, Dublin. Doors open at 6:30pm, with the performance beginning at 7:00pm. Those interested in attending can book a place by emailing the Heritage Centre.
