Institute of Medicine celebrates 97 doctors on completion of Higher Specialist Training

The Institute of Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) celebrated the achievements of 97 doctors who completed Higher Specialist Training across 14 medical specialties at a special ceremony on Friday, 26 June.

Held at RCPI's historic home at No. 6 Kildare Street in Dublin, the ceremony marked a significant milestone in the careers of the new specialists. The doctors were awarded their Certificates of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) by Professor Ed McKone, Dean of the Institute of Medicine, alongside their National Specialty Directors.

Speaking after the ceremony, Dr Diarmuid O'Shea, President of RCPI, said: "The future of healthcare in Ireland and around the world is in good hands when you see the calibre of specialists graduating from our training programmes. I wish them every success in the exciting careers ahead as they bring honour to themselves, their families and our profession. They will be the driving force behind improvements in standards, quality and patient outcomes in Ireland and internationally for years to come."

The Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) is awarded on completion of four to six years of Higher Specialist Training and marks the culmination of a journey that, for many doctors, began more than a decade earlier when they first embarked on their medical studies.
