“Our college curricula, faculty and institute events are driving dialogue and practical advancements in medical education, training, workplace wellbeing, healthcare delivery and medical careers into the future, drawing on the global expertise of our membership, as new technologies and the eras of simulation and assisted intelligence play an increasingly important role in all we do,” he added.

Key Highlights from the 2024/2025 Annual Report:

  • Expanding global membership and training: RCPI welcomed 804 new members, 178 fellows and 13 honorary fellows this year, bringing total membership to 15,000 doctors across 95 countries. A further 29 internationally sponsored trainees joined from the Gulf region which marks a 61% year-on-year increase.

  • Educational transformation: The 2024–25 college year marked a major milestone in RCPI’s educational evolution, with all BST and HST training programmes transitioning to Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curricula, ensuring a stronger focus on professional capability, reflection, and continuous improvement.

  • Growing demand for postgraduate medical examinations: The demand for RCPI's postgraduate medical examinations continues to rise, with a 10% increase in candidates for the 2025-2026 cycle, totaling 5,935 from over 70 countries. RCPI also expanded its clinical examination centres with the opening of five new sites.

  • Advocacy impact: RCPI’s advocacy efforts, led by the Clinical Advisory Group on Smoking and E-cigarettes, helped pass the "Tobacco 21" legislation, raising the legal age for tobacco sales to 21.

  • Global partnerships: Through the EQUALS Initiative, RCPI shipped three additional 40-foot containers of medical equipment to Zambia in the past year, bringing the total to 19 since 2013. These ongoing contributions continue to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the country.
