RCPI welcomes Saudi Commission for Health Specialties

Representatives from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialities (SCFHS) visited No. 6 Kildare St on Tuesday, 2 September, to meet with RCPI President, Dr Diarmuid O’Shea, and CEO, Ms Audrey Houlihan.

The delegation is in Dublin this week to attend the 16th International Conference on Medical Regulation in 2025, organised by IAMRA (International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities) and hosted by the Medical Council of Ireland.

Secretary General Professor Aws bin Ibrahim Al-Shamsan led the delegation and met with Dr O’Shea, Ms Houlihan, and members of the RCPI senior leadership and other Irish postgraduate training bodies to discuss mutually beneficial opportunities in education and training for healthcare professionals.

With over 700,000 members, the Saudi Commission for Health Specialities is an independent scientific professional body, established in 1992, with the goal of being a healthy society through qualified health practitioners. The SCFHS are responsible for education and training of healthcare practitioners, in addition to classification and registration to practice healthcare professions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with many other tasks.

RCPI Director of Business Development and Examinations, Ms Sinead Lucey, who oversees the college's international partnerships, said the visit highlights an enduring shared commitment to postgraduate medical training, education, and assessment.

“We had the honour of showing representatives of the Saudi Commission around our heritage building, sharing some insights into the history and evolution of medicine and healthcare in Ireland,” Ms Sinead Lucey said.

“The visit was an opportunity to strengthen further our relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and explore new and exciting ways to work together to enhance global health.”
