New Fellows elected to RCPI Council

RCPI is delighted to announce the election of 12 new Fellows to Council, with representatives from all specialties within the College.


RCPI’s Council is the senior governing body of RCPI. Its role is to ensure the legal and ethical integrity of RCPI, and to define the values, mission, vision, goals, objectives and strategic directions of the College. Council also ensures accountability by monitoring and supporting the implementation of the strategic plan.

The new Council Members are Prof Colm Bergin (Medicine), Dr Anna Clarke (Public Health),Dr Ronan Collins (Medicine), Prof John Cooke (Medicine), Prof Francis Finucane (Medicine), Prof Mary Higgins (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Dr Emer Kelly (Medicine), Prof Cathy McHugh (Medicine), Dr Pamela O’Connor (Paediatrics), Dr Joan Power (Pathology), Prof Mohammed I Ranavaya (Occupational Medicine) and Dr Yvonne Smyth (Medicine). The newly elected members will join Council following the College Annual Stated Meeting on 19 October 2020.

As part of the ongoing review of governance structures of RCPI, and changes to the composition of Council, several members will be completing their term of office in October. These include Prof Louise Burke, Dr Declan Byrne, Dr Aine Carroll, Prof Richard Costello, Prof John Crowe, Dr Ellen Crushell, Dr Una Fallon, Dr Cliona Murphy, Dr Sinead Murphy, Prof Frank Murray, Prof Conor O’Keane, Prof Anto O’Regan, Dr Diarmuid O’Shea, Prof Emer Shelly, Dr Lynda Sisson.

‘RCPI is our Trainees, Members and Fellows, our continued growth and development is dependent on their active involvement in the College.
