Faculty of Public Health Medicine

Applicants must be fellows or members of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine in good standing.

The €20,000 bursary supports a project exploring best practice in Public Health Medicine in 2036, using forward-looking, systems-based and interdisciplinary approaches. It is intended to support research-related activity (such as consultation and expert input) and is not designed to fund staff time.

Register through the online form and email the proposal in MS Word format (maximum 1,000 words) to fphm@rcpi.ie. The proposal should outline how you would approach the task, including aims and objectives, project scope, timelines and methodology; a consultative process and relevant policy and literature review may also be included.

The deadline for applications is 5:00pm on 31 March 2026.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of three senior Faculty Fellows with the successful applicant announced at the 2026 Summer Scientific Meeting. The successful applicant will then complete the project over approximately 10–12 months, meet with the Dean during the project, submit a final report (maximum 10,000 words) by 31 March 2027, and present the work to a Faculty subcommittee and at the 2027 Summer Scientific Meeting.

Nominees should be actively engaged as Trainers on the HST training programme for PHM, though not necessarily with a trainee in place at point of nomination, and in good standing for purposes of both CPD and as either Member/Fellow of the Faculty.

Nominators (proposer and seconder) can be either Specialist Registrars SpRs in current training or within 12 months of completion of CSCST, current active trainers or other Members/Fellows with relevant experience of FPHMI training programme or service to the Faculty.

Deadline for nominations is 12 noon on 07 December 2026, and the award will be included in the May 2027 conferring ceremony.

An adjudication panel of not less than three members will consider the application form which includes:

a) a short statement/paragraph of up to 500 words as to why the nominee possesses a track record appropriate to the award.
b) evidence of active participation in activities associated with the training programme; and
c) a short 2-page CV outlining career summary to date, achievements and publication record.

This is in line with other FPHMI nomination procedures.

Eligible candidates are those who have submitted an abstract by the deadline set for the Faculty of Public Health Medicine Winter Scientific Meeting and present their abstract during the meeting.

The recipient of the Kevin Kelleher Medal is chosen by the Chair of the Meetings Committee, along with a panel of four judges.

The award is open to eminent individuals who have made significant and outstanding contributions to the field of Public Health.

Nominations can be submitted by Trainees, Members, Fellows, and Board Members of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

Deadline for nominations is 12 noon on 07 December 2026, and the award will be included in the May 2027 conferring ceremony.

The final decision on the award recipient is made by the Dean and the Faculty Board, based on the nominations and supporting evidence submitted.

If a candidate performs to the highest standard in the exams the Valentine Barry Perpetual Trophy may be awarded every two years by the Board of the Faculty on the recommendation of the Convenor of Examinations.

The award will be for the candidate who has performed best among all candidates sitting Part III Oral Examination of Professional Competence during each two-year period.
