38 doctors awarded at RCPI Faculty of Pathology Admission Ceremony
38 doctors were awarded at a special ceremony held in No. 6 Kildare Street on 12 February, during RCPI Faculty of Pathology Annual Symposium.
At the faculty’s annual Admission Ceremony, doctors are awarded Honorary Fellowship of RCPI, Fellowship of RCPI Faculty of Pathology, Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training, Associate Membership of RCPI Faculty of Pathology, and faculty medals.
The college welcomed two esteemed Honorary Fellows – the highest award conferred by RCPI, and reserved for world leaders in medical science and those who have made an exceptional contribution to medicine or healthcare. Each college faculty and institute may admit two Honorary Fellows per year.

Prof Siobhán Burns is an immunologist at Royal Free Hospital London with a special interest in primary immunodeficiency disorders. She originally trained in paediatric immunology and worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital London, before moving to the adult clinical immunology department at the Royal Free Hospital in 2012. Prof Burns works with colleagues to care for patients with primary immunodeficiency disorders, and has a special interest in the care of young adults. Her research is focused on understanding the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms that give rise to primary immunodeficiency disorders, with a particular interest in how genetic mutations impact the function of immune cells. She is Professor of Translational Immunology at University College London.

Prof John R. Srigley is a urological pathologist at Trillium Health Partners Ontario. He trained in anatomical pathology in the University of Toronto, before pursuing postgraduate training at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston. He has popularised the alternative title of “diagnostic oncologist” for histopathologists. 15 years ago, Prof Srigley was involved in quality improvement initiatives in Canada that used RCPI Histopathology Quality Improvement Programme as a model. He is co-founder and past president of the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR). He has been a member of the Cancer Committee of the College of American Pathologists, a past president of the Ontario Association of Pathologists, and was the inaugural head of the Pathology and Laboratory Programme at Cancer Care Ontario. He is a professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
23 doctors were recipients of Fellowship of RCPI (Pathology). This is a special recognition of an individual’s contribution to their specialty, as part of a community of physicians operating at the forefront of medicine.
