If you are unable to meet your Professional Competence Scheme requirements for the current 2019/20 year due to COVID-19, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing email@example.com
We have been asked by the Medical Council to send the information below to doctors on our Professional Competence Schemes.
We continue to engage with the Medical Council to clarify the implications of this statement for doctors and we will issue further advice as soon as possible.
The Medical Council has issued the following advice regarding maintenance of professional competence:
In addition to this, the Annual Statements issued to participants in May 2020 will be annotated with ‘COVID-19’ to indicate that there are extenuating circumstances which prevented doctors from engaging in and recording the required CPD and Audit activities for the 2019/20 Scheme year.
Please note that ePortfolio for Professional Competence will be locked for editing at 12:00 noon on Monday, 11 May 2020 as we generate the Annual Statements for the 19/20 Scheme year.Statements will be issued week beginning 18 May 2020 and we will notify you when they are available to view/download in ePortfolio.
If you have participated in CPD/Audit activities during the 19/20 Scheme year and wish to have these activities reflected in the Annual Statement issued to you in May 2020, please record your activities in ePortfolio before 12:00 noon on 11 May 2020. Uploading of evidence is not required. If you need any help with this, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Medical Council website has been updated to reflect the above advice – see https://www.medicalcouncil.ie/covid-19/
As a result of Covid-19, the Medical Council will not be monitoring doctors’ compliance with maintenance of professional competence requirements for the Professional Competence Scheme year 2019 – 2020.
The Medical Council acknowledges the extraordinary circumstances in which doctors are practising and while patient safety remains a priority, we know doctors’ continued personal learning and familiarisation with clinical and ethical guidelines has dramatically escalated.
The Medical Council will keep maintenance of professional competence requirements under review over the coming months. Updates will be posted on the Medical Council website and circulated to doctors via their Professional Competence Schemes.
