Closing this Wednesday 29 July: 2020 Training Post Evaluation

What did you think of your 2019/2020 Basic Specialist Training posts?

You have the power to make a difference: Please complete the Training Post Evaluation today

We need to know if you have any concerns about the BST post you were in this year.

We are asking all doctors in Basic Specialist Training to complete a short online Training Post Evaluation. Your answers are totally confidential.

In it you will be asked to evaluate the training posts you were in between July 2019 and mid-March 2020, including the working conditions and the support that was, or wasn't, available to you.

Your honest feedback will help us identify  issues affecting the quality of training in specific posts or sites so that we can take action. As in previous years your answers are totally confidential.

The online evaluation form will remain online until Wednesday 29 July 2020.

Please focus on the period predating the Covid-19 pandemic

This was undoubtedly an extremely unusual year in the lives of all doctors in Ireland and we are very mindful of the disruption to normal training caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

While we understand the scale and severity of the impact on training, we would like you to focus on the period of training that predated Covid-19 (July 2019 – mid-March 2020) in the Training Post Evaluation. This will allow us to continue responding to annual feedback on training posts in a meaningful manner.

While you are welcome to give us feedback on issues that arose during the Covid-19 period, we would prefer if you provide this feedback in the open-ended answer box at the end of the evaluation, as we need to identify and analyse challenges that our Trainee doctors encounter under normal training conditions in order to develop an effective course of action.

We know that Covid-19 is impacting on your training and affecting areas such as exposure to essential skills and outpatient clinics. You will hear from us separately about this. We are working closely with the Department of Health, the Medical Council and the HSE to address the impact on training and the challenges arising from the pandemic. We will keep you informed of any updates and you will have an opportunity to voice your concerns at a later date.

What is the Training Post Evaluation?

Since 2016 we have been asking all RCPI Trainees to complete a short, anonymous evaluation at the end of each training post.

Your answers help us identify issues affecting the quality of your training in specific posts or sites, so that we can take action.

This information will allow us to benchmark each RCPI training post nationally, and enable us to continue to drive improvements in training.

To protect your anonymity, you are not asked for any identifying information such as your name, date of birth or RCPI ID number. The confidential nature of the evaluation is why it's not available within ePortfolio.

To further protect your anonymity, we will analyse only aggregate data once more than two years of data have been collected and more than five Trainees have provided feedback on each post, we will begin to analyse data at site/post level.

You can read about findings from the first three years of the Training Post Evaluation here

Play your role in shaping the future of training. We ask you to provide feedback - positive and negative.
