Our annual conference, St Luke’s Symposium, takes place on 14 – 16 October 2020. This year’s symposium will be held as a virtual conference and will host a series of inspiring and enlightening talks and masterclasses from an exciting lineup of speakers.

The symposium opens by linking with the Irish Gerontological Society for an event on October 1st ahead of our 3-day programme which runs from 14 - 16 October. The event, ALONE Willie Bermingham Lecture 2020, will be held online and will be delivered by Dr Mike Ryan, Executive Director at the World Health Organisation's Health Emergencies Programme.  The lecture will focus on lessons from COVID-19 and how we can improve care and support for older people in our community. A strong lineup of renowned national and international speakers has been confirmed for this year’s symposium, including:

  • Prof Luke O'Neill, Professor of biochemistry in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin
  • Dr Geraldine McGinty, Assistant Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College
  • Prof Cathy McHugh, Consultant Endocrinologist, Clinical lead for Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Lead Physician in the Specialist Eating Disorder Unit at Sligo University Hospital
  • Dr James O’Byrne, Consultant Clinical and Biochemical Geneticist in the Mater Misericordiae University
  • Prof Fergus Shanahan, University College Cork
  • Dr Laura Durcan, Consultant, Beaumont Hospital
  • Prof Anthony O'Connor, Clinical Associate Professor in Gastroenterology at Trinity College Dublin and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Tallaght University Hospital
  • Dr Patrick Wall, Professor of Public Health, University College Dublin

These speakers, along with more soon-to-be announced speakers, will discuss and debate the topics at the heart of medicine today.
