We will be carrying out essential maintenance on our website from 6:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday, 20 April 2021. During this downtime, you will not be able to book courses, exams or events, complete applications to training programmes, or make online payments. We apologise for the inconvenience.
All courses and events booked through our course booking website will be automatically uploaded to your ePortfolio with the correct CPD credits. This will be done within two weeks of attendance.
This means that from July 2019, you no longer need to upload a certificate to your ePortfolio as proof of attendance at an RCPI course or event. We will notify you every time your activities are added
We are working towards automatic recording of all RCPI activities, not just attendance at courses/events, and we will keep you updated on progress in this area.
All data entered since 2013-2014 has been transferred from the old ePortfolio, and you will see these records in your new ePortfolio
To claim your CPD Credit:
CPD credit for External, Internal and Personal Learning activities is calculated as 1 learning hour = 1 CPD credit.
You should claim credit for the number of hours you spent engaged in the activity. It is acceptable to round the number of credits up to a whole number where the duration of the activity is half an hour or more.
Research or Teaching: Desirable: 2 credits per year
Postgraduate teaching, postgraduate examining, research, analysis of learning needs and planning professional development can also generate credits. It is not necessary to apply to a training body for approval of research or teaching activities.
5 CPD credits can be claimed in this category for the first time only preparation and delivery of a lecture, poster, presentation etc. In particular instances, teaching and assessment of undergraduate students may have value in terms of professional development and credits can be assigned to such activities where learning and impact on practice can be demonstrated by entering some reflection on the learning you gained through engaging in this activity.
The total number of credits and number of audits you record will be counted on your Annual Statement participation based on the "Date Occured On" and "End Date" that you enter in your ePortfolio forms. If you have an absence from practice that is eligible for an annual statement annotation, this will also be affected by the start and end dates of your absence.
For this reason, we recommend that you always check the dates before you click the "Submit" button.

In line with the GDPR principle of ‘storage limitation’, we are obliged to ensure that personal data is stored only for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data was collected.
How does GDPR impact Professional Competence?
The permitted storage period in RCPI ePortfolio has been set at six years because the Medical Council has advised that retention of PCS data is only required for the current and previous 5 years.
Each year we will contact doctors who have ePortfolio records that fall into the date range for deletion. For example, in 2020-2021, all data relating to 2013-2014 will be permanently removed.
