Selection process

The ICET Committee will review, select and approve applications using the following considerations:

  • Specific qualifications, experience, and academic output of the prospective ICET Supervisor and Research Advisor (where applicable)
  • Quality of the ICET Post proposed
  • Identified unmet training need in the field of Postgraduate Clinical Education
  • Specialty and service priorities
  • The potential benefits to the Irish health service and patients

Please note geographic distribution will also be taken into consideration.

If you are shortlisted for the ICET Supervisor role, you'll be invited to an interview in May 2025.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome after interviews and the approval process.

Eligible trainees will be invited to apply for approved ICET posts in September 2025.

Selection Process

The ICET Committee will review, select and approve ICET Programme applications using the following considerations:

  • CV and training record
  • Research interest
  • Teaching interest
  • Candidate suitability
  • Personal Statement
  • 2 References

Suitable Applicants will meet with the ICET Committee to assess eligibility for the ICET Programme.

Suitable Applicants will meet with the hiring team for the relevant post to secure the post allocation.

  • Note: in some instances these meetings may be combined, depending on the specifics of the post.

All applicants will be notified of outcomes following the conclusion of interviews.

Applicants who are successful in securing a position must complete and submit the relevant OCPE forms to confirm with their National Specialty Directors (NSDs) that they intend to pursue Out of Programme Experience (OCPE) as part of their ICET placement.
