Teaching and educational projects
• Contribute to the postgraduate teaching programme across the HSE Mid West using a broad range of educational strategies, and to the training programme for International Medical Graduates.
• Complete an educational needs assessment and develop, deliver and evaluate a curriculum or educational project in the area of interest, in liaison with faculty leads.
• Develop and deliver faculty development so that local trainers can sustain the project.
• Contribute to simulation training in areas of risk identified by the QPS department (including sepsis, choking, VTE, bleeding and polypharmacy) and to the regional simulation strategy.
Education research
• Conduct education research with outcomes defined with the ICET lead and research supervisors, obtaining research ethics, data protection and governance approvals before data collection.
• Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publication and national and international presentation, and engage in funding applications.
• Contribute to the scholarly environment of the region through collaboration with clinicians, educators and researchers, including the Ageing Research Centre and the Health Research Institute, University of Limerick.
Quality improvement and patient safety
• Identify, with the supervisor and QPS leads, a priority area of clinical education linked to patient safety or quality of care; audit current practice; and design and implement a QI project with defined measures and iterative tests of change.
• Evaluate learner outcomes, changes in clinical practice and, where feasible, patient safety or quality of care outcomes, and hand over a sustainability plan.
• Participate in quality assurance, programme evaluation, external accreditation and the development of governance structures.
Leadership and professional standards
• Provide resources, mentorship and leadership to NCHDs; participate in educational and academic committees; maintain a personal educational portfolio and the highest professional standards.
• Perform such other duties as may be required in conjunction with the ICET supervisor.
• Contribute education strategy and governance (e.g. committee review).
